Hot tub stays in the Overberg: Greyton to the whale coast

If the Winelands are the obvious weekend, the Overberg is the one you keep coming back to. It is the region that holds the largest share of this collection, and it earns that with range. Drive over the mountains from Cape Town and the land opens into wheat and barley, then folds again into the green valleys behind Greyton, then drops to a coastline where the southern right whales come in close from June. A hot tub fits this country well. After a day of walking, tasting or whale-watching, there are few better ways to end it than steam rising into a cold, clear evening. Here is where to soak, from the inland farms down to the sea.
Greyton and the Bokrivier valley
Greyton is the kind of village you slow down for: oak-lined lanes, a long Saturday market, mountain walks that start at the edge of town. Just outside it, in the Bokrivier valley, sit two of the collection's most-booked stays. Western Cottage at Bokrivier sleeps 6 and is built for cooler evenings, with a fireplace inside and a wood-fired hot tub out under the sky. It is pet-friendly, so the dog comes too. Next door in spirit, Clover Cottage at Bokrivier sleeps 8 and pairs its wood-fired hot tub with a heated pool, which makes it the easier choice when you are travelling with a larger group or families who want both warm soak and proper swim.

Up in the Porcupine Hills
Climb a little higher and the views stretch further. Klipboks at Porcupine Hills sits in that rolling country above the valley floor, sleeps 8 and like its Bokrivier neighbours offers both a heated pool and a wood-fired soak. It is a good base for a group that wants space and quiet without giving up the comforts: you can spend the day out walking the hills, then come back to fire up the tub while someone else takes the pool. The combination matters here. The Overberg evenings turn cool quickly once the sun drops behind the ridges, and a wood-fired tub is the warmest seat on the property.
Down to the whale coast
The southern edge of the Overberg is whale country, and the stays here put you close to the water. Earth Eco Cabin at Stonehaven sits near Hermanus, the town that built its reputation on land-based whale-watching. It sleeps 4 and keeps things simple and snug, with a fireplace and a wood-fired hot tub for the two of you or a small family. Further along the coast at Romansbaai, The Black Barn sleeps 6 and has backup power, which on this stretch of coastline is a genuine comfort rather than a footnote. Soak under the stars with the sea somewhere out in the dark, and the load-shedding schedule stops being your problem.

Choosing your base
The simplest way to choose is by group size and what the evening should look like. For a couple or a small family who want a fireplace and a quiet wood-fired soak, Earth Eco Cabin at Stonehaven near Hermanus is the gentle option. For larger groups who want both a heated pool and a tub, Clover Cottage at Bokrivier and Klipboks at Porcupine Hills both sleep 8 and cover it. And for something properly by the sea, Storkereden sleeps 10 and sits steps from the beach, with its own wood-fired hot tub for the walk back from the water. Whichever you pick, the Overberg gives you the same reward: a long soak at the end of an unhurried day.
